About the Speaker
Prof. Julio Villena has published more than 150 research papers in peer-reviewed international journals. His research activities are focused on the study of the cellular and molecular interactions of immunomodulatory beneficial bacteria including lactic acid bacteria and respiratory commensal bacteria with the host and the effects of those interactions on the resistance against infections in humans and animals. The complex interactions of beneficial and pathogenic microorganisms are studied with special focus in pattern recognition receptors and their signaling pathways, in both immunocompetent and immunocompromised hosts.
