About the Speaker

Dr. Francisco B. Elegado is a Research Professor at the National Institute of Molecular Biology and Biotechnology (BIOTECH), University of the Philippines Los Baños (UPLB). He teaches Industrial Biotechnology. Dr. Elegado earned his BS and MS from UPLB and his Doctor of Agriculture from Kyushu University, Japan. He's a UP Scientist, Fellow of the Philippine Academy of Microbiology, and recipient of several awards, including UPLB Best Researcher and Outstanding Microbiologist. He's led multiple research projects, published 101 articles, and holds a patent for the Salmonella DASTM kit and QuixensTM, trademark of DNA-based nanobiosensor for food pathogens. He serves as an officer for various professional organizations and is a member of several international editorial boards and a technical reviewer of DOST projects. Dr. Elegado is a prominent figure in his field, contributing significantly to ethanol fermentation, bacteriocin and probiotics research. He's married to Ma. Gina Cecilia Popa Elegado, with four children.
