About the Speaker
Prof. Koichi Watanabe worked at the Yakult Central Institute of Microbiology in Tokyo, Japan for over 30 years. Since 2015, he has been based in Taiwan, where he is a visiting professor in the Department of Animal Science and Technology at National Taiwan University. He also works as a technical consultant at the Bioresource Collection and Research Center (BCRC) in Hsinchu City and as a chief technical advisor at SYNBIO TECH Inc. in Kaohsiung City. In these roles, he supports young students and researchers in conducting their research. His primary research interests include the molecular ecology of microbial communities in the human gut and in traditional fermented foods, the functionality of probiotics, as well as the systematics on lactic acid bacteria and bifidobacteria.
