About the Speaker

Prof. Hooi Ling Foo is a Professor of Industrial Biotechnology at the Faculty of Biotechnology and Biomolecular Sciences, Universiti Putra Malaysia. In 1998, she completed a PhD at Wye College, University of London, now known as Imperial College London, United Kingdom. Hooi Ling has extensive research interests in lactic acid bacteria and their metabolites, as well as the development of bioprocess technology. She has authored five book chapters and over 130 articles in peer-reviewed journals. Together, 10 patents were granted by Malaysia, Australia, Singapore, China, Japan, the USA, and Korea, respectively. Hence, she has 5 commercialisation experiences with the granted patents. Hooi Ling is the elected Vice President of the Asian Federation of Societies for Lactic Acid Bacteria (AFSLAB) (2020-2025). She was the organising chair of the 12th Asian Congress of Lactic Acid Bacteria (ACLAB 12) in Kuching, Sarawak (20-22nd September 2022). Now, she is the president of MSLAB for 2021-2026.
