About the Speaker

Prof Dr Aleš Berlec is a leader of Lactic acid bacteria group at Jožef Stefan Institute and teacher at University of Ljubljana. His work focuses on engineering bacteria-based therapeutics and cell factories, development of novel genetic engineering tools and delivery systems. He performed his PhD at the University of Ljubljana, Slovenia, and his post-doc at the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences, Austria. He has mentored 7 PhD and 21 master students. His publication record (60 peer-reviewed articles, 3 book chapters, >3550 citations, h-index 27) led to his inclusion in editorial boards of Frontiers in Microbiology, BMC Biotechnology and BMC Microbiology. He is a recipient of several national awards, and has served as PI or co-PI of four national projects, SI/CZ bilateral project, EU ERA.Net project Cell4Chem and industrial research project. He participated in organization of 6 international meetings, including 2021 FEBS Congress.
